The Query Letter:

Miss Dobson,

I came across your account on twitter and felt an instant connection. We both have a pitbull, and both love Tiger King, while I didn’t scroll long enough to know if you also adore Schitt’s Creek and salty snacks, I’m sure it’s somewhere on your feed. My first novel is not yet represented, and has never been published (traditionally or self) Could’ve Been (76,000) is a women’s fiction that could be The Sweet Gum Tree by Katherine Allred meets 500 Days of Summer.

With a single touch Jake pulls Liv into a swirl of memories. Memories of a life neither of them actually lived. Memories of the life they would have lived, had they not broken up in high school. When the reel of memories fade, Jake and Liv are faced with reality. The reality that they have spoken to each other since they were 16, when their friendship came to an abrupt end. The reality that Liv is married, with a son. And while this is the happily ever after Jake has been searching for, reality is far more complicated.

I’ve been married for 14 years, we have four kids and a pitbull who flunked out of service dog training. I live in Utah, but long for the Hawaiian beaches I once called home.

I’ve included the first two chapters per your requirement on your website, but have the full manuscript available.

Thank you for your time and consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
